TREND ALERT- Grey is the new Black

Autumn and winter are always about neutrals but this season GREY taking centre stage.

Grey seems to bring out the best in woollen and knitted fabrics because in production there is a slight variation in the dying and as a result the garment is more luxurious and softer to touch.

Try mixing your neutral palette teaming grey with creams, beige, camel and taupe for a on trend look. Or you can even take your look to a more contemporary place by mixing different shades of grey with black or even black & white stripes.

My picks to invest in this season are oversize jumpers, mid calf cardigans, and this seasons must have the grey jumper dress.

Any of these pieces will look so on trend over black or patterned leggings, or dark denim slim fit jeans and for the finishing touches accessories with Indian inspired turquoise jewellery.

Lastly a point to remember when wearing grey, you want to wear slightly more dramatic make-up to balance up the look, smoky eyes with a nude lip are a nice balance and allow you to easily transform your look from day to night.

It's not easy finding the perfect pair of skinny jeans especially for me at 5'1 and in between a 6 and an 8. The size 6 gives me those unwanted muffins and the 8's are just not fitted enough.

So last week I went jeans shopping and let me tell you it was quite a workout getting some of them on and off so I went home and started trawling through the internet and I came across 'Paige Premium Denim Jeans' and thought I would give them a go.

AMAZING!!!

Super soft denim, great true to fit sizings, and the best news is they do petite fits for us shortys and size 7 for all of you who are like me and are an in between size...YAY!

My fav are the Paige Jeggings. They are a cross between denim and leggings which makes for the perfect skinny jean as they hug in all the right places.

The bad news...Unfortunately I do not stock Paige Denim as they are an overseas label however I thought it would be criminal not to share my fab find with you as I know how hard it is to find the perfect skinny jean and trust me these are pretty close to it.

With celeb clients such as Gisele, Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz and our very own Miranda Kerr, Paige is renowned for slimming the hips, lengthening the legs (god knows I need that) and lifting the butt!

Nookie RAFW Spring/Summer 2010 - 'LET THE LOVE RULE'

Last night I headed to the Nookie solo runway show for Spring/Summer 2010.

The show was just gorgeous and was kicked off by performers Brendon Hui and Catherine Ajaka singing the range title "Let The Love Rule"

The collection was refreshing throwing in splashes of colour, burnt orange, turquoise, and bold print which is a nice contrast the the pastels we are seeing for the season.

Along with the soft palate of pastels punctuated with splashes of colour and prints we saw stories of denim, lace, jersey and sequins finished with oversized hooded coats and vests.

The range will be available to purchase on Australian Flavour Aug/Sep 2010.

Bec & Bridge at RAFW 2010 - SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE

Monday night was the night of the Bec & Bridge show and the girls did not disappoint delivering their gorgeous high summer range titled 'Smoke Without Fire'.

The range was inspired by the subtle tones and silhouettes of an eerie desert landscape and its sheer raw beauty.

With a neutral base of stone, ash and bone the girls collection is infused with the pastel shades of blush and sea foam.

There is allot of draping and unstructured shapes whist the hooded capes create a nice contrast to the relaxed shapes of the dresses.

I am in love with this range and cannot wait for it to arrive.

RAFW Day 1 - Uscari and Story By Tang Runway Show

After a slightly delayed flight, lugging a suitcase that was clearly almost as big as me up and down stairs, onto trains and then finely to my hotel room...I made it to Sydney's 2010 fashion week pretty smoothly.

Day 1 for me was the Uscari and the Story by Tang show.

The gorgeous silk dresses and jumpsuits of Story By Tang were just beautiful. Very easy to wear, flowing, flirty and feminine.

...and I loved the soft and earthy tones of Uscari....Just stunning...

Tonight I am off to Bec & Bridge and I cannot wait!

I am loving basics dressed up with a hot ankle boot and statement jacket.

It is really easy to put together and looks great.

If you weren't blessed with long legs and find flat ankle boots tend to make your legs look short then try a pair of wedge ankle boots.

A little late I know but I have finally got my act together and put together an Autumn lookbook with loads of inspiration on what is hot this Autumn.

Don't be afraid to mix prints and rock a cute beanie or head scarf and remember accessories are key to top of a look not to mention fun as well.

However If you are wearing a statement dress with cutouts like the Bec & Bridge Mississippi Dress I tend to go a little lighter on the accessories as this dress needs nothing but a cute pair of heels and a clutch for your essentials.

We shot this seasons lookbook in one of my friends boutiques in Burleigh, they had this great space out the back with raw concrete floors and high ceiling white walls a perfect setting which was toped of by the gorgeous sweetheart chair and antique leather suitcases we used for props. Thanks girls for letting us take over your space it was perfect x

You simply must have this gorgeous Bec & Bridge Lattice Blazer this winter.

At $330 retail it is not the cheapest blazer but you really do get what you pay for. The cut and feel of this jacket is amazing and the lattice fence sleeves are definitely a unique feature.

I have spotted this little number in the February Issue of Shop Til You Drop and I am sure I am not the only one.

Gisele first hit my radar back in 2004 when she started dating Leonardo DiCaprio. I remember seeing the photograph of them together (below) and getting excited that I had discovered a new style icon or girl crush, how ever you chose to describe it. Even looking at this image now, I'm still transfixed on how amazing her overall look is.
This romance between the 2 may have been what first had the mass media take interest her, but this clever & beautiful woman was already well on her way to worldwide fame and success. At 28 Gisele is now the highest paid model in the world & also the 16th richest women in the entertainment world. Having been the face of more than 20 Brands Internationally she recently teamed up with Brazilian footwear company Grendene (iPanema) to produce her own line of sandals.

Now I'm not just saying this because I've been stalking Gisele for 4 years now, these sandals are AMAZING. The designs are stylish, the colours are all earthy and natural, and the comfortably.... Wow! We can spend 100's of dollars on shoes that we will happily wear because they look great but need to take them off after a few painful hours, you will no doubt want to absolutely live in these.

Anyway, enough of my raving as you will just have to see for yourself. They certainly have my endorsement.

Oh how I love it when new stock comes in that I fell in love with a while back. It's like having made a christmas wish list months prior and then suddenly that anicipated package finally arrives. Bec & Bridge showed their Summer 08/09 collection at Rosemount Fashion Week this year and it was AMAZING to say the least. Their summer collection has teased us, coming in bit by bit each month and yesterday some of my definite favourites made their arrival. Designers Becky Cooper and Bridget Currer are talented girls indead!

One Teaspoon would definitely have to be one of Australia's most successful fashion labels. Designer Jamie Blakely seems to get it perfectly right each season with her collections appealing to a variety of tastes from edgy urban street, to sexy girly pieces.

Having followed the label right from it's launch back in 2000, I was exceptionally excited when they announced bringing out a "Vintage Twist" collection for this coming Spring. All the pieces have that "original" One Teaspoon feel to them, from cute little denim skirts to logo tees and beachy girly dresses. Eagerly counting down the days to it's arrival, below are a couple of my very favourites.... Can't wait!!!

I was very privileged to be able to attend the Mother Maria show at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival last night. The clothes looked AMAZING on the catwalk. It's so good to see fresh new Australian Designers like Mother Maria making an impression on the Industry. The cute & unique Mother Maria Style, along with the quirky head pieces made quite an impression on the audience and media. This is a label I think we are going to see go a long long way! It was actually quite a nice day today here in QLD, I won't say it was singlet and shorts weather, but hopefully a small taste of what is to come in the near future! The reason for my anxiousness for warmer days is the arrival of SO MUCH new Spring Stock! Two of my favourite summer collections arrived today from Lilya and Nookie. Completely different, Lilya is a mix of folky/boho/hippy styles (don't get me wrong, there are some ultra sexy party styles mixed in too - LOVE the Maria Jumpsuit), and Nookie Boutique - hot hot hot!

Ever since I saw this photo of Ashley Olsen a few months back I have been searching for a black stretch tube skirt. You know when you just fall in love with a particular celebrity's look and immediately start imagining that you will be able to pull it off in exactly that same way?

Such a simple clothing item, but do you think I could find one? I was delighted yesterday when the first Spring drop of Mother Maria arrived because I had been sweating on receiving the Pin Up Pencil Skirt for months now. I love that this single item will look great for Winter with a cropped jacket, and then will take me through to summer with a simple singlet and sandals.

Doing the "buying" each season for AustralianFlavour can certainly be overwhelming. I get to see so many different items of clothing that won't actually be available for the general public to purchase for up to 8 months sometimes. By the time the stock arrives, I'm always waiting with baited breath, and hoping that my choices all those months ago are still going to be ok. In a world in which what the celebrity style queens wear, drives what we want to be wearing, I'm always pleased when one of my favourite celebs is photographed wearing something very very similar to what I've chosen to purchase for AustralianFlavour for that season!

This month I'm very happy that it seems I have some how channelled Sienna in our taste of clothing. I can't wait for the Mother Maria High Tea Dress to arrive (approx the 17th of August), and the Bec & Bridge Stripe Maxi (which is already here) is definitely one of my favourites. I'm feeling pretty confident that the rest of the Spring & Summer arrivals are going to be amazing, with or without celebrity look a likes. This season there are a few styles that I am completely obssessed with. One of my favourites are jeans or leggings with the split at the bottom of the leg. As seen on both Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, this style looks HOT! I was very happy today when our One Teaspoon Heartbreak Leggings arrived with the button up split at the bottom of the leg. These goodies are made out of stretch Rayon Elastane, but have a waistband and fly just like real pants. All the comfort of leggings combined with the style of skinny black jeans....

Most of us are guilty of it, some more than others. That's why we have a thriving gossip magazine Industry, Australian's being one of the biggest consumers of magazines world wide. We can't seem to get enough of what our favourite celebrities are doing, who they are dating and what they are wearing. My obsession is more the later, I can't wait to see a fresh new pic of what Rachel Bilson, Nicole Richie, or the Olsen twins are wearing. It's an obsession that I've had since my teens & just haven't grown out of. The internet makes it even worse, like feeding petrol to the fire, every up to the minute photograph waiting to be found. I'm happy to share though, you too can oggle over how Rachel Bilson seems to put the most basic clothing items together & look so amazing. Or how Molly Sims & Demi Moore make you want to fill your wardrobe with glamorous dresses in white & neutral tones...... Enjoy...

So many clothes, so many different trends, and so many different ways to wear them! It can all get just way too overwhelming sometimes.

When I have stock arrive here at AustralianFlavour, we photograph it, style it with other items (if it’s being used in a shoot for our lookbook), and think, yep, looks great. Then, a month later, a photograph will come out in a magazine, same item, but styled and looking a completely different way in which we hadn’t even thought of doing.

Below is a collection of photos to help you work out how to wear some of this season’s gorgeous pieces. Some shots are of items that we stock at AustralianFlavour, others are just similar to pieces we have, but included to inspire you & help you imagine how you could wear something.

Remember though, there really are no rules for fashion (sex and the city taught us that). Just play with it, experiment with it, and enjoy it.

Tricky Trends; the Alice Style skirt doesn't suit every figure type, but if you can pull it off as Ashley Olsen does easily, wear with a casual tee or to glammed up with a bodysuit and heals.

Long or short, the Caftan can be worn casually or glammed up with great accessories. I love this seasons longer style. From Kate Moss' casual style to J Lo's glamour, it shows how versatile this wardrobe item can be.

Little Bags

I’m kind of getting over all the oversized bags. As practical as they are, (being able to carry your life around with you), for summer I’m really liking the idea of something a bit smaller, lighter and “chick” looking.

While doing my usual celebrity photo stalking this week I found some great photos featuring small bags. The more I see the more I like, therefore I was very excited to receive our November Mogil orders this week which included lots of gorgeous little bags.

I LOVE the suede Mogil Zora Bag which is available in Black, Green and Sand Suede, it has a perfect length chain shoulder strap and the way the suede has been quilted gives it just that extra bit of detail to make it a stand out piece. I also love the “Fringe” trend that has emerged on an assortment of different accessories. The Mogil “Hairy Horsey” bag is so cute with the fringing across the front, and very practical with it’s adjustable shoulder strap so you can wear it across the body for a more casual look.

Lights, camera, action!

It's not quite a Hollywood production but doing the photoshoots for AustralianFlavour have to be one of my favourite parts of the job. As this shoot was organised at the last minute though, I had to take the photographs myself (I'm definitely no professional but love giving it a go). My sister Michelle is an AMAZING hair dresser, make-up artist, and fashion stylist. Unfortunately she lives 8 hours away so when I found out I was going down to Port Macquarie for the weekend and she had some spare time, we organised a model, and pulled it all together for an afternoon shoot.

Last minute things always have their downfalls though, and with the craziness of getting the family organised for our trip, packing up clothes and picking up more sample on our way down to Port Macquarie, I realised that I had forgoten my camera! Luckily one of Michelle's employee's at her Salon (thank you so much Matt) had a professional digital SLR camera & was kind enough to lend it to us. In the end we pulled it all together & the results were surprisingly good! We shot some new styles that are due to arrive later in October (The birds of a Feather Maxi Dress is absolutely gorgeous), plus re-photographed some styles we've already got in stock (the One Teaspoon Bo Bonnie smock looks fantastic in the new photos).

Understated Glamour

There is nothing worse than an overdose of every trend worn all at the same time. It really does look ridiculous. I personally love nothing more than a stylish and simple outfit, put together using one, possibly two current pieces. When I first saw this photo of Ashley Olsen, it pretty much summed up what I would define as "understated glamour" and a look that is obtainable by all, not just those with extremely large shopping budgets.

A basic white tee has always been a staple wardrobe item over time. The way Ashley has combined the American Apparel Deep V Tee, tucked into some tailored high waisted pants, along with a statement pendant, looks elegant, sexy and very fashionable. Simple is sometimes best, be experimental, and remember you don't have to bust your budget to look great!

This past 2 weeks we have been moving home and office so I apologise for any late replies to emails, or orders not arriving exactly on time. I absolutely love having a home office and warehouse set up but have certainly not enjoyed moving it! We are getting back on track now. Although Spring does not "officially" begin until September, at AustralianFlavour we have our spring stock starting to arrive in August. Luckily enough, here in QLD we've beeen teased with a few warm days this past week, which make thinking about putting together a new Spring wardrobe, much more viable. To me summer dressing is about the simplicity in being able to throw an outfit together, with a basic dress and sandals which will look and feel great.

These days, with the explosion of the Internet and especially Internet Shopping, so many designers, celebrity photos and online boutiques are now instantly in front of us, tempting us to spend money to stay up to date with every trend. We are enticed to obtain exaclty what our favourite celebrities are wearing, everywhere we look, whether it be endorsments or paparazzi photos. Frustrating though, is when we discover that gorgeous dress we've fallen in love with, comes with just as an amazingly large price tag. Thus, I have decided to start adding to my blog, some of my own online finds. I don't wish to tease you with my exeedingly expensive discoveries, but to show you that there are much more economical versions, which will still look and feel amazing. I hope you find it enjoyable and helpful! (I'm sure your bank balance will be greatful!)
